THE TEACHING OF ENGLISH GRAMMAR: TRENDS AND TRAJECTORIES
Shirley N. Dita is Associate Professor at the Department of English and Applied Linguistics of De La Salle University, the Philippines and currently the chair of the department. She holds a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from the same university where she graduated With Distinction. Dr Dita considers World Englishes, Corpus Linguistics, and Austronesian Linguistics as her areas of interest. She has given various keynote and plenary lectures, as well as workshops and themed panels on these topics. She mentors PhD and MA students and likewise publishes topics around these areas. She has held various key positions in local and international organizations such as being the President of the Linguistic Society of the Philippines (LSP), executive secretary of the Asian Association for Lexicography (AsiaLex), Vice Chair of the Philippine Social Science Council (PSSC). Currently, she is a member of the Executive Board of the Southeast Asian Linguistic Society (SEALS) and the International Conference on Austronesian Linguistics (ICAL). Likewise, she was the 2020 Chair Holder of the Br. Andrew Gonzalez FSC Distinguished Professorial Chair in Linguistics and Language Education. She’s currently working with Ariane Borlongan on the book: Philippine English under ‘Dialects of English’ series published by Mouton de Gruyter. Likewise, she’s a member of the editorial board of ‘New Directions in World Englishes Research’ published by the Edinburgh University Press.
