Taj Falaknuma Palace is one of Hyderabad's most royal and historic palaces. "Falaknuma" is a Urdu word meaning "Mirror of the Sky" or "like the sky." This palace is built on a hill above Hyderabad and is considered a royal symbol of the city. History of Falaknuma Palace The foundation stone of this palace was laid on March 3, 1884. It was built by Nawab Sir Viqar-ul-Umra, the Prime Minister of Hyderabad and a Paigah nobleman. British architect William Ward Marret designed it. The palace took approximately 9–10 years to complete and cost crores of rupees. How did the Nizam get it? When the palace was completed, Mir Mahbub Ali Khan, the 6th Nizam of Hyderabad, was invited. The Nizam liked the palace so much that it was later given to him. After that, Falaknuma Palace became the royal guest house for the Nizams. Special Facts about the Palace The palace was designed to resemble a scorpion. It features rare chandeliers, antique furniture, and a famous 101-seat dining table.
