Not only are we colleagues, but I am honored to call this force of nature my friend. I grew up with the earworms of these two on repeat in my brain just like everybody else. But what I didn’t realize until recently is this: if you slow down the bubble-gummy tune “Make My Dreams,” you get some of the most heartfelt lyrics ever. I arranged this as a ballad, and invited one of the best singers of our time, LaVance Colley, to sing it as a duet with me, in hopes of translating what we’re used to hearing as upbeat and light into the true deep yearning the lyrics convey… at least to me.
