Is Pilates Enough for Women? What Women Need for Strength & Longevity
In this conversation, I discuss where yoga and Pilates fit in women’s training. I frame them as parasympathetic, posture, balance, and proprioception work - useful complements, but not the bread and butter for pure strength. If you’re doing five days a week of classes, I look at your end goal and how to keep your “soul food” while adding heavy resistance training that won’t make you bulky or overly sweaty and will strengthen your practice. I then outline simple entry points for plyometrics - squat jumps, wall plyo push-ups, battle ropes and why explosive work alongside lifting improves central nervous system drive, maintains muscle quality, and supports proprioception and cognition with fewer injuries and illnesses. Even a few box jumps in a warm-up can deliver the stimulus without being exhausting. Watch the full episode here: • Dr Stacy Sims ! Women Are Not Small Men ! ... Want to go deeper?
