Nampo-dong is Busan's largest shopping district. This area was once thronged with tourists and known as a mecca for street food and shopping. However, the cityscape has now changed dramatically. Walking down the streets, only signs reminiscent of its former bustle remain, and beneath them are rows of vacant storefronts, seemingly missing a tooth. "Tenants Wanted" signs are more noticeable than the stores that are open. Even at night, there are few people around, and only a few street stalls light up. The streets are silent, as if the quintessential Korean energy has disappeared. It's as if time has stopped at night in Nampo-dong. Once called Busan's Namba, this is the largest shopping district in South Korea's second city. Shizuka strolls through this bleak downtown area, which looks as if the economy has collapsed. Busan is experiencing a declining birthrate, an aging population, and an exodus of young people to Seoul. Has it been swallowed up by the economic wave, or is it just a trick of the times?
