Spencer Gulf Snapper Plague | Chasing Salmon | Ban Extended June 2027

Welcome to Off the Rocks! My name is Jeff, and I always say a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work! In this video, I’m on the hunt for Salmon which have moved into our coastline in the thousands. However, the snapper are so thick I can’t keep a bait in the water for them. We are not targeting snapper in this video, but they are definitely targeting us! The Snapper Situation: Recently, the Snapper Ban on the Spencer Gulf was officially extended—the fishery is now closed until June 30, 2027. While it's great to see the numbers increasing, both amateur and professional fishers are finding it harder to target other species due to the "Plague of the Snapper." In this video, I give a brief rundown on the ban extension, share some old-school photos of my Dad, and give my two cents on why we need a total overhaul of the rules to protect our coastline.
