Sophie Tucker - My Extraordinary Man (with Ted Shapiro) (1934, from Gay Love)

Sophie Tucker and Ted Shapiro engage in some banter before performing a classic Tucker song entitled ‘My Extraordinary Man’. This clip comes from the 1934 British film ‘Gay Love’, which Tucker filmed whilst working in England that year, the same year she made a command performance for King George V and Queen Mary. I am forever thankful that for the first few years of sound films, musical numbers were captured ‘live’ instead of the method of lip-syncing to pre-recorded tracks which would soon establish itself as the norm.
