In this first part of our expedition, we ventured into one of El Salvador's most mysterious and imposing places: the San Vicente Volcano, better known as Chinchontepec Volcano. This volcano stands out not only for its breathtaking natural beauty but also for the numerous stories, legends, and real events that have fueled the mystery surrounding it for years. For a long time, many people claimed that its dense forests and remote areas served as hideouts for criminal groups operating in the country. Although many believe that era is over, there are still accounts from people who claim that individuals involved in illicit activities may still be hiding in the highest and most isolated areas. Furthermore, this volcano holds a story that deeply affected many Salvadorans. It tells of a teacher who climbed the mountain with a group of hikers. According to the stories, at some point he became separated from the group and disappeared. Over time, multiple hypotheses emerged: some believe he suffered an accident, others that he became disoriented on the mountain, while still others hold more unsettling theories. What is certain is that, after several months of searching, his body was found and subsequently buried, leaving many questions unanswered. Throughout the years, there have also been reports of people mysteriously disappearing on this mountain, as well as accounts related to events that occurred during the years of the Salvadoran civil war, making this volcano a place steeped in history, memory, and mystery. During this exploration, we will discover old, abandoned houses hidden among the vegetation, little-used trails, fruit trees, breathtaking landscapes, and the wildlife that inhabits this area. Each step will bring us closer to the secrets hidden within one of El Salvador's most emblematic volcanoes. ⚠️ This is only PART ONE of the adventure.
