South Africa’s unemployment rate rise to 33.2% in Q2
South Africa’s unemployment rate rose to 33.2% in Q2 2025, with 140,000 more people out of work. Stats SA’s latest Quarterly Labour Force Survey shows a labour force of 25.2 million from a working-age population of 41.8 million. Only four of ten industries created or retained jobs during the period, with black women and youth remaining the most vulnerable in the labour market. Free SA’s Reuben Coetzer weighs in.
