A Hidden Gem in Honolulu A Walking Tour in Kaimuki Town

Kaimuki What is Kaimuki known for? Ka imu kī - In the Hawaiian language it means "The ti root oven". Back in the day, many ovens were used to bake roots of kī Cordyline fruticosa, or ti, into a transformation to make sweet food similar to candy. Kaimuki is a quaint neighborhood town where you will find places to go like coffee shops, various diners and restaurants (old style and new trendier ones) popping up here and there which gives within the area a variety of choices to choose from. There is even an old crack seed store that’s been there forever like the ones you would find in Chinatown back in the day. Some quirky indie stores, old historical buildings,a liquor store, a gelato, ice cream and bakery shop, hairstyling and nail salons, and even a “Movie Museum” (get this) which offers a very small movie room with a monthly schedule of vintage movies you can go to and see according to their time schedule.
