Our guest is Professor Yuri Kono, a political scientist at Hosei University. As its name suggests, Meirokusha was formed in 1873 (Meiji 6) and is known as a group of prominent intellectuals of the early Meiji period. While Yukichi Fukuzawa is a well-known member, Professor Kono, who published "Meirokusha: An Intellectual Society Gathering of Arinori Mori, Amane Nishi, Yukichi Fukuzawa, and Others" (Chuko Shinsho) in February of this year, deviates from conventional descriptions of Meirokusha, discussing individual members such as Fukuzawa, Arinori Mori, Amane Nishi, and Hiroyuki Kato on equal footing. Graduated from the Faculty of Law, University of Tokyo, and completed the doctoral program at the Graduate School of Law and Politics, University of Tokyo. Doctor of Law.
