Tips for better production of Millet crop || Crop Reformer

Millet (Pennisetum typhoides) is an important crop of dry areas of Pakistan. It is not only grown as fodder but grain purpose as well. In this video, we have advised about the selection of hybrid varieties of millet. Maize and Millet Research Institute (MMRI) Yousof wala Sahiwal has developed a high yielding hybrid variety YBH 278 which is not only heat tolerant but its yield is better than most other hybrids. A high yielding hybrid variety of Poineer marketed by CORTIVA that is 86 M 88 is another successful. Either of these two or alternate may be selected for grain purpose. As regards sowing time, it should be planted during the mid of July. Millet is fairly heat tolerant crop and it may also be planted after mid of June. June sowing may be stuck with heat wave if it is severe, therefore mid July sowing is suggested. With the passage of time, millet is gaining importance for not only the diet of birds but it in now becoming the major ingredient of several precious products and medicines. In this video, selection of variety and the sowing time under the conditions of changing climate have been discussed. Several modifications in the production technology of millet are expected. We should try cultivate small but precious crops in place of some area cut from major crops.
