Tino Sehgal (born in London in 1976) develops immaterial works that produce no records or material objects. Formed through the body, language, and relationships, his works are called "constructed situations" and are realized through the interaction between the audience and "interpreters" who sing, dance, or speak. This exhibition presents eight constructed situations, including new works, alongside sculptures from the Leeum Museum of Art's collection personally selected by the artist. Auguste Rodin's sculptures form a special dialogue as the artistic source for the artist's masterpiece, The Kiss (2002), summoning the historical context of sculpture into the present. At the same time, Felix Gonzalez-Torres's bead curtains placed throughout the space serve as a medium that constantly transforms the environment. Gonzalez-Torres’s curtain works, which manifest anew each time according to the strictly defined bead colors and arrangement order, share an aesthetic trajectory with Segal’s practice, which is realized through the repeated execution of gestures and words passed down orally. The audience meets the sculptures, passes through the beads to face the interpreters, and becomes part of the operation of this intangible situation. Rejecting all forms of documentation, Tino Segal’s exhibition prompts us to reconsider the essential meaning of art that does not rely on electronic media in an era where everything is digitized. These moments, which will remain only within the audience’s memories and experiences, will deeply convey the value of art crafted through human connection and sensory experiences.
