Faenza è una cittadina di 59000 abitanti ubicata lungo l’antica strada romana Via Emilia, in provincia di Ravenna in Emilia-Romagna. La città è storicamente nota per la produzione di ceramica artistica, al punto che la maiolica, a causa della rinomanza della manifattura locale, è conosciuta nel mondo come faience o faïence. Faenza is a town of 59,000 inhabitants located along the ancient Roman road Via Emilia, in the province of Ravenna in Emilia-Romagna. The city is historically known for the production of artistic ceramics, to the point that majolica, due to the renown of local manufacturing, is known throughout the world as faience or faïence. Of Roman origin, under the lordship of the Manfredi it began to go through an era of great architectural and artistic development from the Renaissance to the Baroque and, thanks to the intense artistic and cultural activity, between the 18th and 19th centuries it became a reference center of Neoclassicism in Italy and Europe. On the fourth Sunday of June the Palio del Niballo is held, a historical re-enactment which is the pride and joy of the city, founded in 1959 and inspired by the medieval jousts of Faenza, which sees the challenge between the five city districts.
