Judge Finds Out He Made 38 Jail Calls to the Alleged Victim
Today we’re in Washtenaw County, Michigan, for a domestic violence case that was supposed to move forward at a preliminary examination. Kameron Larry was originally charged with felony assault with intent to do great bodily harm and misdemeanor domestic violence. But before witness testimony could begin, prosecutors raised a new and serious issue: while in custody, Larry allegedly made at least 38 calls to the alleged victim, using other inmates’ PIN numbers. The prosecution said the calls were highly concerning and suggested possible witness tampering. The alleged victim was not in court that day, and prosecutors told Judge J. Cedric Simpson they believed the calls may have affected the case. Larry’s public defender, Alex Warren-Green, argued that Larry had already spent about 30 days in jail, lost his job, was living on home confinement, and had family support behind him. But Judge Simpson focused on one question: after the no-contact order, could the court trust Larry to remain out of custody? The hearing ends with Judge Simpson revoking Larry’s bond and sending him back to jail. But that was not the end of the case. Days later, the case resolved through a plea agreement. Larry entered a no-contest plea to misdemeanor aggravated domestic violence. The original felony assault charge and misdemeanor domestic violence charge were dismissed. However, there’s an important qualifier: the agreement calls for sentencing under Michigan’s domestic violence deferral statute. If Larry completes the court’s requirements, including the 52-week Accountable Choices program, the case can be dismissed without a conviction. This episode breaks down the hearing, the bond decision, the alleged jail calls, and the later plea agreement that changed the outcome of the case. #JudgeSimpson #Courtroom #CourtCam #DomesticViolenceCase #PreliminaryExam #BondRevoked #MichiganCourt #WashtenawCounty #TrueCrime #LegalBreakdown #CourtHearing #CriminalCourt
