Yes, I know, it's based on the Stellantis group's CMP2 platform, and many of you tell me that this type of structure isn't suitable for becoming an Alfa Romeo. I understand the criticisms of the brand's purists, but this is precisely the gamble that must be won: this car demonstrates how the Alfa Romeo team knows how to apply its hands where and how it needs to, transforming even the most unorthodox underpinnings into cars with an unmistakable character. Meanwhile, the Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce stands out for its captivating lines, 4.17 meters long and with a wheelbase of 2.56 meters. The black version we tested highlights the sporty and dynamic lines of the body. It has a 280 horsepower axial flux electric motor, a 54 kWh battery, and a maximum torque of 345 Nm, reaches a top speed of 200 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. It's front-wheel drive, but—beware—it features a next-generation Torsen self-locking differential. And super-fast steering—just thinking about it and it's already ten degrees off the steering angle. In short, it's a true rocket through the curves. It has impeccable roadholding thanks to the technical decision to forgo the multilink suspension at the rear, opting for a live axle, a configuration with greater responsiveness. This technical decision also allowed the weight to be kept under 1600 kg, but that wasn't so much the intention or a cost constraint, but rather to have a more "granite" rear end and favor a faster and more engaging front end. The sports seats, made in collaboration with Sabelt, offer excellent support and high-quality materials. The multimedia system includes all the modern features, like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with ergonomically arranged climate and audio controls. Don't be shy about being in an electric Alfa Romeo; get used to it, because we'll be seeing a lot of them this way from now on. You have no idea how fast and compact this Junior is, how much fun it is, how quick it turns, and how quick it is to pick up speed out of corners. I'm in front of a 280 hp Giulia Veloce (a car that should be a World Heritage Site for its handling) playing the "hare" and I assure you, I'm not left behind. Thanks to the advanced Torsen differential, it provides great traction out of corners with excellent stability. Even when braking, I have to say I'm surprised. First of all, the 380 mm Alcon disc brakes provide remarkable stopping power, and brakes were clearly needed, considering we're dealing with an object that weighs almost 1,600 kg. But beyond needing to bite, it also needs stability under braking, and that's where the anti-roll bars and shock absorbers come into play, as does the Torsen differential, which is locked to 34% during overruns. This means it can do its part to stabilize the car, ensuring truly remarkable driving dynamics. Obviously, today's test isn't focused on fuel consumption and range; the numbers say 350 km in the WLTP cycle, but we'll see that during the first open-road test. €48,000, not a small price tag, but we'll see the upcoming versions later.
