The narrative reflects our own individual struggle throughout life, not just necessarily from a religious point of view, but in a more human sense. We all have challenges to overcome and sometimes those challenges may dwarf us and seem impossible to defeat. Because of this, many are able to resonate with David - the poor shepherd boy who, equipped with just a sling and a stone, was able to successfully slay the giant Goliath and overcome his personal challenge in what was probably one of the biggest upsets in the valley of the Philistines.
