It's been a while. I've put together a special feature on rotary engines, combining footage I've collected over the years. It seems like videos like this exist, but surprisingly, they don't. It took an eerily long time to make because I had to think about so many things... It covers four rotary engine specifications! Side port Bridge port Peripheral port Cross port (combination port) I'll introduce them in this order. You've probably heard of side, bridge, and peripheral ports before, but I think cross port is a specification you've probably only heard about a little bit. They're mostly specifications found on race cars, after all. These are rare videos, so please enjoy! The rest of this video is an explanation, so if you haven't watched the video yet, please watch it first and then scroll down! The RX-8 featured in "Side Port" is my beloved car. The 13B-MSP produces just over 210 horsepower. Since I changed the air cleaner, it's probably about 5 horsepower higher than stock. Fuel economy is 8-10 km/L on the highway. In city driving, it's 4-6 km/L. Even this is on the low side for an RE. As anyone who drives an RE will understand...lol But it's fun to drive, and I love it, so I don't have any plans to switch cars right now. The "Bridgeport" SA22C is equipped with an ERC engine. It apparently uses rotors from an RX-8. Since it doesn't have a metering oil pump, I mixed 200 ml of oil per 30 liters of fuel when refueling. Fuel economy is probably 3-4 km/L even on the highway. It's completely behind the times. Of course, in a good way. The engine used for the "Peripheral Port" is the 767B-NO. 202. The engine has a cool name, the 13J Kaikai, so I chose it this time. The 13J modified rotor is equipped with four 654cc rotors per rotor, for a total displacement of 2616cc. It's a naturally aspirated engine with 630hp. We've used three "Crossport" rotors alone. All are TFR-built machines. The yellow FD has a 13B periphery + side cross rotor and produces just over 600hp. This is the machine that achieved a time in the 54-second range at Tsukuba Circuit! The black FD has a 13B periphery + bridge cross rotor. This incredible machine produces 1000hp with two rotors! Apparently, this power is achieved by switching to metallic fuel. The orange RX-8 has a 20B periphery + side cross rotor and produces 1500hp! There are only a limited number of places in Japan where you can race this car, so it's quite rare to even see it. He spins out at the end of the video, but it seems they've been training drivers since then, so we hope they can complete the race the next time they run! That wraps up all the details about the main car featured in this video.
