Analysis: China furious after Trump signs Hong Kong legislation
US President Donald Trump has signed two bills into law that back Hong Kong's pro-democracy movement. The United States can now impose sanctions on Chinese and Hong Kong officials deemed responsible for human rights abuses. And Hong Kong’s special trade status will be reviewed every year. The self-governing Chinese territory's leaders say the move will damage their relations with the US, while China has expressed "extreme regret" over the move. Beijing says it will respond with firm countermeasures.
