When we started working on this boat, we didn't have to waste time removing the old equipment, so we immediately sent the hull for cleaning, and then began repairing and modifying the hull. Most often, as in this case, we begin modifying a boat by replacing the transom board or installing a new transom reinforcement kit. On this MKM boat, the standard transom board was replaced with a new aluminum plate filled with wood, supported by the factory knee. The owner also requested that the new transom plate be equipped with hooks for closing the engine bay with the factory cover. Naturally, this option is only available with the engine removed. In addition to modifying the stern of the boat, we had to replace a significant number of rivets on the sides, gunwale, and foredeck, as well as fill the holes left by the factory windshield and other existing accessories. Having completed replacing the obviously damaged rivets, we flooded the boat to detect any leaking rivets below the waterline. About 10 such rivets were found, after which they were removed and replaced with new hammer-type rivets installed with polyurethane sealant. The final step was to install a second mounting eyelet on the factory air tank, located in the aft cockpit and serving as the factory buoyancy control unit. Any questions?
