GARLASCO, parla il giudice che assolse STASI: "Vi spiego perché è innocente"

It was December 17, 2009, when a then-young preliminary hearing judge (GUP) from Vigevano acquitted Alberto Stasi in the first instance of the murder of his girlfriend, Chiara Poggi. That GUP was Stefano Vitelli, known in the news at the time as "the hyper-guarantor judge" who did not convict the man who, in the public opinion, was the only possible perpetrator of that horrific crime. Sixteen years after that ruling, and 11 years after Alberto Stasi's third-degree conviction, the Garlasco case has been reopened with new evidence under consideration that is leading investigators to focus their attention on other individuals (such as Andrea Sempio). In a lengthy interview with La Stampa, Stefano Vitelli returns to that December 2009 ruling, focusing on the "reasonable doubt" that led him to acquit Stasi.
