Ananthan Kaadu, directed by Jiyen Krishnakumar and written by Murali Gopy, is a period revenge thriller set in early-'90s Thiruvananthapuram that revolves around a reformed gang whose peaceful lives are disrupted after they shelter a mysterious outsider. While the film is built around an intriguing metaphor that gives the title its meaning, the screenplay unfolds as a familiar revenge drama with predictable developments and very few genuine surprises. Despite Murali Gopy's philosophical touches and strong dialogue, the largely linear narrative and conventional staging prevent the story from reaching the complexity associated with his earlier works. Murali Gopy delivers a grounded performance in the central role, while Indrans emerges as the film's biggest strength with a commanding performance that provides many of its most impactful moments.
