Saving the caretta caretta turtles in Greece with Arhelon

Every morning just as the sun is rising, volunteer teams from archelon_greece , the Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece, survey the beaches of Crete, checking for new nests and monitoring turtle trails. We did a 7am guided walk on Platanias beach with them and we were very lucky to witness a long-head turtle coming ashore to lay her eggs. Lots of expertise was put into action and much energy was spent from the day’s guard; more than one egg-deaths. A tough way to conserve Nature. But very much alive. Full marks to the dedicated international team struggling to save and, if possible, rehabilitate and release (if they are capable) hundreds of turtles here in Chania and the rest of Greece. The biggest predator in the world is humans, alike being the major help for other species on Planet Earth. Perhaps in glimpsing ourselves through the eyes of our utmost others, we can find our way to a world that will survive us or at least make us better animals.
