4555 on the English Riviera | Dartmouth Steam Railway 29/04/2023

Upon returning from its most recent overhaul in 2020, 4500 Class – 4555 has spent little time at its home of the Dartmouth Steam Railway, with the locomotive instead being on an extended loan period at the East Somerset Railway. However, after a visit to the Severn Valley Railway for their ‘Spring Steam Gala’, the locomotive would make a surprisingly rare appearance on the English Riviera, performing on the DSR over the bank holiday weekend. 2023 marks the 50th anniversary for the Dartmouth Steam Railway. Once known as the Torbay Steam Railway, the DSR first opened to the public in 1973. 4555 was one of the first locomotives to arrive on the fledgling heritage railway, arriving from the South Devon Railway; then known as the Dart Valley Railway. Operating their Green timetable, 4555 romped over the steep gradients that the DSR has to offer, on load 7.
