Gospel of the day Tuesday, June 9, 2026 Audio Gospel of the day in Italian with commentary by    / @frastefano   Liturgy of the Word today, from the Gospel according to Matthew Glory to you, O Lord Mt 5:13-16 At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: "You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its flavor, how can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a bushel basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." Word of the Lord Praise to you, O Christ Sometimes we think that faith begins with believing in God. But if we look closely at the Gospel, we discover something surprising: Jesus, even before that, invites us to believe in ourselves. Jesus says: “You are the salt of the earth… you are the light of the world.” He doesn’t say “you will become,” but “you are.” It’s as if he looked us in the eye and said: your life already has value, already has meaning, already has a strength that perhaps you don’t see. How often, instead, do we live thinking that we are not enough, that we are not enough, that we have nothing special. And so we turn off the light, we lose our flavor, we hide. But Jesus disagrees. He sees something precious in us, something that can illuminate, that can give flavor to the lives of others. Believing in Him, then, also begins here: learning to trust what He sees in us. It’s not pride, it’s truth. It’s not presumption, it’s accepting a gift. If you don't believe your life has value, how can you offer it? If you don't believe you are light, how can you shine? Today, try this simple step: look at yourself as Jesus looks at you. Not harshly, not with judgment, but with trust. Within you, there is a real light, even if small, even if flickering. And remember: the world needs people who believe that God has placed something good in them... and who let it shine. Don't fade away. Don't hide. You are light.
