Kargil surprised me! 🤩| Exploring Ladakh with locals

In August 2025 I travelled to the Kargil in Ladakh, India - a city full of history right on the border with Pakistan! This vlog covers my day exploring this fascinating hidden gem of a city!  If you saw my previous video you’ll know that I had bumped into my friend Hsin the night before on the bus from Leh to Kargil. We spent the day together, along with our new friend Hussein who is Kargil local and works at the hostel we were staying in (Black Sheep Hostel). First Hussein took us round the local market (full of bargains!) and to see the mosque which was very beautiful. We then went to the bus station to find out about busses to Zanskar and so that Hussein could post a parcel (I love this about busses in India!). Next we had a look at the Suru river and went for some breakfast at a local Dhaba (a place for cheap tasty food). We had a very yummy and good value meal of omelette, noon chai, Kashmiri roti and spicy chutney! After breakfast we explored Kargil city a bit more, walked over the wooden bridge and chatted to some locals. We saw the sight of the old Caravanserai and visited the museum (Munshi Aziz Bhat Museum) which is all about Kargil's history as a major hub on the Silk Road. We were shown around by the really friendly and insanely knowledgeable man who runs it, he had so much information about Kargil's history it was absolutely fascinating! Unfortunately that afternoon when walking alone I was followed by a man which I found very intimidating. This experience, which is something that lots solo female travellers face made me a bit nervous about staying in the city alone so I decided to move on to Srinagar, Kashmir the following morning. In the evening me and Hsin went for dinner and lassi, chatted with more friendly locals, and wandered around the city a bit more before heading to bed. Next stop: Srinagar, Kashmir! Have you been to Kargil? What was your experience like? Do you have recommendations for where I should visit next?
