2022 Volkswagen GLI Review: Better than Honda's Civic Si & the Subaru STi?

The relatively low priced 2022 Volkswagen Jetta GLI is one of the most satisfying sedans you can buy. Like everyone else, VW has been headed towards Electric Avenue (what cool people call the EV, or Electric Vehicle Market). But the famous German brand is still making good old fashioned gas powered sports compact cars. The GLI is the Jetta’s performance variant. Love that Jetta GLI exhaust sound! The VW Jetta managed to be the best-selling model for three years during its production, and the GLI aims to continue this trend. Better specs and performance are the selling hook. The GLI packs a turbocharged 2-liter four-cylinder engine, or the TSI, as the brand calls it. It produces 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, coming with a six-speed manual transmission as a standard and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic optional. Quite an improvement on the Jetta’s 158 horsepower. The GLI still falls behind the Golf GTI in terms of power, but with the upgrade and the impressive sedan characteristics, the GLI makes a case for itself. Responsive steering, solid suspension, top-notch braking, and other similar capabilities make the GLI sedan a safe and enjoyable ride. The GLI’s smart use of cabin space is a big plus for heavy travelers and shopaholics. Like FUBU jeans, this Jetta’s got a great many compartments all over the place for putting in all kinds of necessities and junk. Border agents and law enforcement will work themselves into exhaustion when searching GLI owner’s cars. .
