Game-Like Session Activation (TOVO Inspired)

Most youth soccer sessions still start like it’s 1995. Lines. No pressure. Unopposed passing patterns. Barely any decisions. Meanwhile players are dealing with a massive touch deficit… and barely getting enough meaningful touches on the ball. So this week, I tested a completely different way for soccer coaches to start training. I built a “Game-Like Activation” designed to keep players: ⚽ Thinking constantly ⚽ Solving problems ⚽ Competing ⚽ And touching the ball the entire session start I tested TWO versions: 🔥 Rondo Progressions https://kinoli.com/s/K1YxRDN8Ugjv 🔥 3v3 Small-Sided Game Activation https://kinoli.com/s/8q1EHZ7nFUCl The idea was inspired by TOVO Academy and Todd Beane: https://tovoacademy.com/ And honestly… the difference in energy, focus, touches, and decision-making was huge. No wasted time. No standing around. No boring warmups. Just players actually playing soccer. Question for coaches: Would your players respond better to the rondo version… or the 3v3 version? And if your current warmup still has lines and waiting… it might be time to rethink how your sessions start. ⏱️ Chapters 00:00 Why Most Session Starts Fail 00:40 Todd Beane & TOVO Idea 01:20 The “Game-Like Activation” Concept 02:05 Rondo Activation Version 03:35 3v3 Tournament Activation 05:10 Which Version Worked Better? 06:05 What I Learned 06:40 Final Thoughts #soccercoach #youthsoccer #soccertraining #footballcoach #soccerpractice #footballtraining #smallsidedgames #soccerdrills #coach #playerdevelopment
