Remon's Youtube channel: @rayjoel7505 I have 10 Greek Idioms and I'll ask Remon what they mean! Write in the comments how many you got. Remon is a student in the @DoYouSpeakGreek community, where we play lots of interactive games and teach the language in a unique and engaging way. Ouzo is a big part of Greek culture, often enjoyed in fish taverns by the sea. But it’s a strong drink — and to be honest, I personally don’t need strong drinks to have fun. For me, all it takes is good company, a few funny people, and a healthy, positive environment. My message to you is this: Come to Greece, enjoy yourself, and don’t feel pressured to drink alcohol. You can have an amazing time without it! The IDIOMS I used: 1. Βρέχει καρεκλοπόδαρα Literal: “It’s raining chair legs.” Meaning: It’s raining extremely heavily — like “It’s raining cats and dogs.” 2. Σκάει ο τζίτζικας Literal: “The cicada is bursting.” Meaning: It’s extremely hot, usually in summer. 3. Σε γράφω στα παλιά μου τα παπούτσια Literal: “I write you on my old shoes.” Meaning: I completely ignore you / I don’t care about you or what you say. 4. Τα μάτια σου 14 Literal: “Your eyes (should be) fourteen.” Meaning: Be alert / Pay very close attention. 5. Κάτσε στ' αβγά σου Literal: “Sit on your eggs.” Meaning: Stay put / Don’t interfere / Don’t get into trouble. 6. Θα βάλω τη γάτα μου να κλαίει Literal: “I’ll make my cat cry.” Meaning: Said sarcastically to mean “I couldn’t care less” or “I won’t be upset at all.” 7. Μπρος γκρεμός και πίσω ρέμα Literal: “In front, a cliff; behind, a river.” Meaning: Stuck between two bad options — like “Between a rock and a hard place.” 8. Δε μου καίγεται καρφί Literal: “Not even a nail is burning for me.” Meaning: I don’t care at all. 9. Θα φας ξύλο Literal: “You will eat wood.” Meaning: You will get beaten up. 10. Γιάννης πίνεις, Γιάννης κερνάει Literal: “John, you drink; John, you treat.” Meaning: You’re treating yourself. You do anything you want without caring about others.
