New Tygart Flyer Excursion

This video documents my ride on the New Tygart Flyer Scenic Rail Excursion operated by the West Virginia Central Railroad on June 8, 2002. After boarding the first set of passengers in Belington, the excursion train headed to Elkins, WV where additional passengers boarded. The train continued to the High Falls of the Cheat River, at which point it met the Cheat Mountain Salamander and reversed its move to head back to Elkins and Belington. From Belington, the train headed to Tygart Junction and an interchange point with the CSX Railroad. After a power run-around move there, the train returned to Belington for the conclusion of the excursion. During this excursion I had the opportunity to ride with Mr. Lars Byrne, an historian, engineer, and conductor on the West Virginia Central Railroad who provided historical information during the ride. I also had the opportunity for cab rides in the two locomotives used on the excursion, an FP7A and a BL2. Information and maps about the West Virginia Central and its predecessors may be found at "https://www.american-rails.com/wvc.html". Another useful website is "http://www.wmwestsub.com/main.htm". In particular check out the "Belington Sub", "Durbin Sub", and "G.C.&E Sub" sections as found on the left of the webpage for information about parts of the route of "The New Tygart Flyer".
