Peru 2021: Huascarán
I was fortunate to be led by my incredibly strong and skilled guide, Eloy Salazar Obregon from Andean Peaks. His deep knowledge of all the high-altitude mountains in Peru (as well as Ecuador and Argentina), his sound judgement calls and accurate planning made climbing of this mountain a reality for me. Also, thanks to our porter, Miguel, who carried a tremendous amount of load, I was able to climb the steep slopes of this massive mountain to the end. We started the summit push under very windy conditions and near the summit, it felt like being in a hurricane. Because of the ferocious winds, holding up the Artsakh, Armenian and Canadian flags properly was impossible. The pleasure of climbing this mountain for five days was unforgettable.
