Harris Academy Sutton's role in tackling climate change

“In the last 18 months, people have begun to wake up the full extent of accelerating climate change. There is no debate about the fact it is happening, now the debate is how bad is it going to be?” – Jonathon Porritt, non-executive director, Willmott Dixon As a construction industry, we need to be forward thinking and take responsibility for the buildings we create. A zero carbon built environment has to be the only way forward. This film explores the Passivhaus method to construction and the role it can play in striving towards a more sustainable future. The project featured is Harris Academy Sutton, the largest school – and the first secondary school to be built to the Passivhaus standard, setting the sector standard for exceptionally low energy use and superb user comfort. Designed by Architype and constructed by Willmott Dixon for the London Borough of Sutton, the 10,000m2 four story, six-form entry school accommodates 1,275 pupils and 95 staff.
