A dance-drama about a young girl, Neeli, who was denied her educational rights due to circumstances that she had no control over. She yearned to learn how to read and gain knowledge, but her low caste and gender deprived her of such privileges. As the story goes, Neeli was caught by upper-caste Brahmin men, or Nambhoodiris, and murdered for her "misconduct". It is said that Neeli became Goddess Neeliyar Bhagavathi & is worshipped by the locals of Mangattuparambu. This is an attempt by me to tell her story and further explore the emergence of a new form of Theyyam in the northern part of Kerala.
