Horror escape: 20-year-old loses limbs after fallen power line electrocutes him— Blandra horror What began as a terrifying wake-up call in the darkness of early morning has turned into a family's worst nightmare. Twenty-year-old Jesus Maharaj remains in critical condition and is fighting for his life after suffering devastating injuries when he came into contact with a fallen high-tension power line outside his family's home in Rampanalgas Village, Balandra. The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, when a loud explosion shattered the quiet of the rural community. Residents of the home were jolted awake by what sounded like a blast, followed by bright flashes of light and sparks outside the property. Believing their home was on fire, family members scrambled to escape. In the panic and confusion, Maharaj rushed from the house, unaware that a high-tension wire had fallen into the yard. Seconds later, he was electrocuted. The massive electrical shock left him critically injured. Family members say he has since undergone multiple surgeries and has lost both legs and several fingers as doctors fought to save his life. Speaking during a visit by Crime Watch host Ian Alleyne on Saturday, Maharaj's devastated mother and stepfather rejected suggestions that copper cables were being stolen in the area at the time of the incident. Instead, they claimed the overhead electrical lines had been causing problems for years and that numerous complaints had been made about the condition of the infrastructure. The family said they repeatedly raised concerns and are now left wondering whether the tragedy could have been prevented. The former CEPEP worker is struggling to come to terms with the incident and also provide for her son given his medical state. As Jesus lay critically injured, another relative, 37-year-old Adrian Lewis, was also electrocuted after attempting to assist him during the ordeal. Both men were initially taken to the Toco Health Centre before being transferred for further medical treatment. Today, the Maharaj family remains at the hospital, praying for a miracle. Their once energetic and ambitious son now faces a long and uncertain road to recovery as relatives struggle to come to terms with the life-altering injuries he has suffered. What was supposed to be an ordinary Thursday morning has left one young man fighting for survival, another nursing injuries, and an entire family searching for answers. As investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the fallen high-tension line, loved ones say their immediate focus remains on Jesus, whose battle for life is far from over.— Story by I.A.N News
