Macmillan Jurassic Coast Mighty Hike 4K

Having waited 2 years the time had finally arrived to head to Dorset to attempt The Jurassic Coast Mighty Hike. 26 miles along some of the most scenic coastline and countryside. The walk was set to be made more challenging as it was forecast to be one of the hottest days of the year! The walk starts at Lodmoor Country Park in Weymouth. Easing you in gently following the bay, followed by a series of small climbs out of Weymouth. The next few miles were fairly gentle and saw me reach the 1st pit stop. From here on the hills came in quick succession. The scenery was a welcome distraction from how steep the hills were. The climbs were worth the effort to reach the picturesque Durdle Door. On towards Lulworth Cove and the end of the coastal section of the walk. Heading inland towards the lunch break and the 1/2 way marker. The walk continued along farm tracks and fields for several miles before the route switched to roads. This was were I started to feel the pain, the tarmac was punishing on my legs and feet, give me more cliffs to climb any day. I reached the 2nd pit stop and the 20 mile marker feeling confident I would finish the walk with one final push. After leaving the final pit stop I walked past a gravel quarry, a rifle range and through a plantation that was surprisingly boggy considering the dry weather. More road walking from then on until I reached the final challenge of the walk, Knowle Hill. If I got up this last climb it would be all down hill to the finish. Once at the top I claimed my celebratory packet of Skittles from the marshals and recieved a good soaking from their water pistol. The final 2 miles was a pleasant walk towards the impressive ruins of Corfe Castle. The sound of the steam train at Norden gave me the final bit of encouragement I needed. I focused on putting one foot in front of the other and was elated to reach the finish line where I was met with a lovely welcome from the marshals and fellow walkers who had already finished.
