This is Colin. Ce：Hello, everybody, this is Cecilia, 欢迎大家收听早安英文 Co: Cecilia what happened? You come to work early in the morning, is everything alright? Ce: Yeah... No, it's not alright. My crazy friend ordered some stupid morning call service for me, and I just couldn't ... Co: Wait wait wait, I don't get it, so you were staying in a hotel last night or what? Why would you need a morning call? Ce: Yeah that's the point, I don't! Co: Well Steven Jobs once said that people don't know what they want until you show it to them. And I believe you do need it, judging by the time you arrive at work every day. Ce: I'm starting to doubt it is you who ordered the service for me. Co: Not me, I didn't even know this was a thing. There are people who provide morning call service as a job? Ce: Not only that, nowadays you can order all kinds of services. Co: What do you mean by different roles? Roles like what? Ce：Colin Co: OK so my first question is, is it something like Siri? You know, some people like to chat with Siri when they are bored. Co: Yeah now that I think about it, it does feel a little bit pathetic to chat with an artificial intelligence program. Ce: Right?artificial intelligence，artificial就表示人工的、人造的。 Co: OK since the service doesn't use AI, then basically you are just hiring people to talk to you, right? Isn't that ever stranger? More pathetic? Ce: These people who are paid to chat with you, most of them have a role. They talk like the character and they stay in the character. Co: Oh just like the cast members in Disneyland. Ce: They are supposed to stay completely true to their character at all times. Co: I got it. So their personality and everything they say must make sense to what people would know of that character from their movie or TV show. For instance, Li Yunlong should make a lot of references to his Italian artillery and Tang Sanzang, you know, the monk in Journey from the west, should act long-winded. Co: Long-winded? I've watched Journey to the West. I don't see him as long-winded. Ce: long-winded. Co: It can be used to describe talking and writing. For example you can say, the essay is long-winded. Co: Wow you have so many ways to say long-winded in Chinese, 啰嗦 (luo suo), 唠叨（lao dao), and now 长气（chang qi). Ce: Haha in English too. So what's the difference between long-winded and wordy. Co: Wordy just means using a lot of words, often when it seemed unnecessary. It is like overly complicating it. Co: Yeah but usually it's just full of pretentious nonsense. Ce: 这个pretentious就形容一个人或者一件事请做作的、或者说故作特别的。 Co: For example, if you enjoy a party, you would normally say it's a nice party. However, some guy may choose a really wordy way to put it and say, this party is such a delightfully vibrant and momentous occasion. It's annoying, right? Ce：Very much so. Co: Haha maybe just to put on airs and posture. Ce: 没错就是摆架子嘛。这个put on airs, 它就是表示摆谱、摆架子。但是还有一种情况啊，maybe sometimes it's because they feel nervous and are trying too hard to impress someone. Co: Well, that would be the wrong way to impress me. Ce: 哈哈有的时候在很重视的人面前也有可能会紧张的不知所云嘛，这种情况下讲些蠢话也是可以谅解的。那说完了wordy,我们再回过头来看看long-winded, Co: Long-winded means that someone is taking a very long time to get to the point, going on and on and on. Ce: 就像我们刚刚说的长气长气，一口气很长，就能一直讲一直讲。 Co; It is like when someone is telling a story, but they keep filling in unimportant details, dragging it out, and taking forever to get to the important parts. Co: 哈哈2分钟就可以讲完的事结果细节铺垫了半小时是吧。 Ce: Yeah it even feels like they talk just for the sake of hearing themselves. Co: 嗯哼， they seem to like having people's attention on them but they don't have a whole lot that is useful to say. It tends to make them either very boring to listen to, or very frustrating to listen to. Ce: Have you watched it? Co: No. Ce: It's a great film. Co: Oh he was born for this. But I don't think this is the real purpose of the service. I mean, people could have set an alarm clock or to ask Siri to do so, why talking to a real person. It seems more of emotional needs to me. Co: Yeah a personal assistant that works independently and takes initiative for its user, it might be the ideal tool and — who knows — perhaps closer to the emerging of a promising occupation. Ce: 诶看来Colin还是很感兴趣的啊，怎么着，明天给你也来一个。 Co: No I'm good, I've been an adult for many years and I'm pretty sure I can get up on my own. Ce: 不行不行，必须安排上，明天你就等着在晨光中迎来连环夺命call吧。
