Another walking tour in one of the most beautiful places in Hungary – the picturesque Lillafüred. It is a tourist and spa resort located on the eastern slopes of the Bükk Mountains, at the confluence of the Szinva and Garadna streams, at an altitude of approximately 297 meters above sea level, about 12 km from the center of the city of Miskolc. This area lies within the boundaries of Bükk National Park, the largest national park in Hungary. Moreover, the region has been recognized as part of the Bükk-vidék Geopark (UNESCO), highlighting its exceptional natural and recreational value. Although administratively Lillafüred belongs to Miskolc, it functions as a separate tourist destination within the metropolitan area. In Lillafüred, there are hotels, guesthouses, and restaurants, including one of the most iconic landmarks – Hotel Palota. The area also features boat rental services, cafés, and souvenir shops. The region consistently attracts enthusiasts of hiking, cycling, and skiing. Dozens of tourist trails extend into the Bükk Mountains from the surrounding area. There is also a station of the LÁEV narrow-gauge railway, on which a historic train operates, connecting Lillafüred with Miskolc and other nearby towns. The walking tour begins at the Hámori Mászópark climbing park, known for its impressive rock formations. Next, we will see the Church of St. Florian and the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, built in 1832, as well as the Kohászati Museum – a branch of the Museum of Technology and Transport. The next stage leads to the higher parts of the resort, where the Terraced Hanging Gardens below the Palace (Lillafüredi függőkert), Anna Cave (Anna-mésztufa barlang), and the 20-meter-high Szinva Waterfall are located. Near the palace – Hotel Palota – lies Lake Hámori (Csónakázó-tó), created in 1813 by damming the waters. To conclude, we will walk to the LÁEV narrow-gauge railway station (Lillafüredi Állami Erdei Vasút) and watch the historic train depart.
