THE BLUEST EYE by Tonny Morrison

The Bluest Eye, written by Toni Morrison was published in 1970. The story is set in 1941, in Lorain, Ohio (ow-hai-ow) which is Morrison's hometown. The novel is divided into four long chapters and each chapter is named after season_ autumn, winter, spring and summer. The novel tells the tragic story of a young girl named Pecola who is regarded as ugly because of her dark skin. In the novel, Pecola suffers the cruelty of her parents, classmates, and other individuals in the community. She desires for blue eyes, knowing that they will not only make her beautiful but also will gain love from others. Poverty, racism, sexuality, suffering, beauty and violance are the dominating themes in the novel.
