This video discusses the history of frog pregnancy tests and chytrid fungus. Before at-home pregnancy tests existed, people used frogs to determine if they were pregnant. The use of frog pregnancy tests had incredibly terrible consequences for amphibians around the world. When these frogs were eventually released from their labs, they spread a deadly fungus, called "chytrid fungus" or Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis, across every continent. This caused amphibian populations to plummet across the world and many amphibians went extinct entirely. In telling this story, this video answers the following questions: How were frogs used as pregnancy tests? Were frogs used as pregnancy tests? What is chytrid fungus? How bad is chytrid fungus? How did chytrid fungus spread? How does chytrid fungus affect amphibians? Join this channel to get access to perks: / @oddanimalspecimens
