timbuktoo Africa MineTech Innovator Unveiling

The Minetech Hub unveils the first cohort of 10 minetech innovators who are set to push the needle on mining technology on the continent and across the globe. The 10 innovators, hosted by NISIR, will showcase state of the art innovations but equally receive skills and knowledge to increase and capture financiers from across the globe. Chosen from over 350 applications, these startups represent some of the most promising early-stage ventures using frontier technologies—such as drones, data analytics, and AI—to solve real challenges in the mining sector. The timbuktoo MineTech Hub, is a continental centre of excellence in sustainable mining innovation, which was launched in December 2024 in Lusaka. It is part of a larger UNDP initiative to launch similar thematically driven tech-powered hubs across Africa aimed at driving Africa’s future. The Minetech hub is located at the National Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research (NISIR) under the auspices of the Ministry of Technology and Science. The initiative aims to support African mining start-ups by providing capital, mentorship, and market opportunities.
