The idea for the choir first surfaced in a heartfelt conversation between André and a former chorister — a shared reflection on how much adult singers longed for a space to continue making music together at a high artistic level. The dream lingered, resurfacing again and again, until it finally took root. From the very first auditions, it was clear that this choir would become something special. Many who stepped into the room were familiar faces: alumni of Pro Cantu Youth Choir, Stellenberg Girls’ Choir, and the Stellenbosch University Choir. Others came from new corners of the country, drawn by André’s artistry and the promise of a musical home. Together, they formed a group of ±80 choristers, aged 18 to 50, representing diverse backgrounds and careers from across South Africa. For adults navigating the demands of professional and personal life, Voces Cordis offers something rare — a podium to continue singing in an ensemble defined by community, discipline, and heart. As adults, our choristers connect with music in deeply personal ways, bringing emotional maturity, lived experience, and profound sincerity to every piece we sing. What began as a reunion of voices who had journeyed together before has grown into a vibrant, evolving ensemble united by purpose: to create honest, moving choral music that speaks to the heart, honours our shared history, and builds something meaningful for the future. #TraditionalZulu
