It was written by keyboardist Rod Argent and recorded at Abbey Road Studios (then known as EMI Studios) in September 1967. Over a year after its original release, the track became a surprise hit in the United States, rising to number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the Cashbox chart. It has become one of the Zombies' most popular and recognizable songs, and an iconic hit of 1960s psychedelia. Notable cover versions In 1969, The Thyme In 1981, Pino D'Angiò included an Italian version titled "Signorina" Brent Bourgeois in 1990 Michael Damian in 1994 Also in 1994 The Nylons In 1997 Kurt Elling Scott Weiland released a cover version on the Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me soundtrack, credited to a fictitious band called "Big Blue Missile" featuring Weiland. In 2003, Ben Taylor recorded the song for his album Famous Among the Barns, later featured in the horror film Prom Night (2008). In 2005, The Guess Who Dave Matthews Band in 2005 Tommy Shaw (of Styx) and Jack Blades (of Night Ranger) in 2007 America remade "Time of the Season" for their 2012 release Back Pages, a cover album.
