The Midnight Hour By-election Special

David Dimbleby presents a special edition of The Midnight Hour covering the results of the byelections in Beckenham and in Winchester. He is assisted by Robin Oakley in the studio, Carole Walker at the Beckenham count, and both Jon Sopel and Anthony King at the Winchester count. The studio panel is Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Chris Smith, Shadow Social Security Secretary Iain Duncan Smith, and Liberal Democrat Nick Harvey. Nick Robinson has a report from the Winchester byelection campaign. The programme began at five minutes to one in the morning of Friday 21 November 1997, and ran on to a quarter past three. Beckenham produces its result at 15:50 while the Winchester result comes at 1:57:20.
