At a press conference at the Planalto Palace this Friday (20), President Jair Bolsonaro stated that his coronavirus tests came back negative and did not answer a question about the release of his test results. “I'm a special person because of the role I hold, obviously. But I took both tests, my family took them too, and they came back negative. If the presidential doctor or even the Minister of Health thinks I should take another test, no problem. Several people close to me tested positive,” Bolsonaro emphasized. Health Minister Luiz Henrique Mandetta stated that “the patient's tests are the patient's” and criticized the press and public's calls for information about the president's health status. So far, 22 people who participated in Bolsonaro's trip to the United States earlier this month have tested positive for the virus. Impeachment requests for Bolsonaro, filed by District Representative Leandro Grass (Rede) and PSOL members, accuse the president of committing a felony by encountering supporters at the March 15 demonstrations without wearing masks, while suspected of having the coronavirus. Bolsonaro took his first test on the 12th, after his Secretary of Social Communication, Fabio Wajngarten, tested positive for the virus. The second test was performed last Tuesday. After taking the test, however, the president had contact with at least one person who was diagnosed with the virus: the Minister of the Institutional Security Office (GSI), Augusto Heleno.
