Discover Nairobi, Kenya 🇰🇪 They Will Never Show You On TV
Nairobi is the capital city of Kenya. A place where everyone collides into a magnificent experience that will take a lifetime to forget. The city is known for its sheer natural beauty and culture that will take your breath away. Every street in Nairobi is known for something. From restaurants, coffee shops and clubs and shopping complexes. The first thing you will notice as soon as you arrive in Nairobi is the matatu culture. In Kenya, matatu or matatus are privately owned minibuses used as share taxis. As you can see, they are all graffiti spray painted and the ones with the most beautiful art attract more passengers. The busses are pimped, with high-quality sound system and flat-screen TVs for entertainment. Matatu's artwork features international pop stars, hip-hop artists, athletes and political icons. The matatus have evolved from being a mere mode of transport to a way of life. It is no exaggeration to say that modern Nairobi could not have taken shape without them. “Matatus are Nairobi and Nairobi is matatus." I had the privilege to go inside one of them and was amazed at how decorated the inside is. It's like a moving carnival with television screens mounted everywhere even on the rear sides of their matatus to entertain those travelling behind. They offer clients high-speed internet connections and power sockets for charging up devices like phones and laptops. The second thing you will notice as you move around the city of Nairobi are the shoe shining stations. The people of Nairobi like wearing spotless shoes. In Swahili, we say wana ume nekiatu which means the art of shoe shining is driven by the belief that your admirers start with the shoes. In Nairobi, shoe shining has been elevated with elegantly-designed racks where you sit on a pedestal as your shoes are cleaned. Kenyans are friendly, their general friendliness of its local residents and friendliness towards foreign residents will make you want to live here. Everywhere you go someone must tell greet you Karibo. Welcome. Next stop - Mombasa #kenya #nairobi #africa #eastafrica #karibu #swahili
