It now takes half a typical household's entire income just to service a new mortgage — and over eleven years of saving to scrape together a 20% deposit. Over the past 25 years, Australian incomes roughly doubled. House prices quintupled. Wages walking. Prices sprinting. And the rental market is a blood sport on top of it all — one Melbourne renter asked completely seriously whether 30 rejected applications was normal.
