Kumano Kodo Iseji Hongudo 4 Days Spring Hiking 熊野古道 伊勢路 本宮道 春の4日間ハイキング

There are several routes along the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage network. The Ise-ji route begins at Ise Grand Shrine and leads to the Kumano Sanzan (the three grand shrines of Kumano). At Hana-no-Iwaya, the Ise-ji splits into two paths: the Hama-kaido (Coastal Route) and the Hongu-do (Hongu Route). The Hama-kaido leads to Hayatama Taisha, while the Hongu-do leads to Hongu Taisha. The Hongu-do—the route I am introducing today—served as a shortcut that cut directly through the mountains to Kumano Hongu Taisha, avoiding the long detour along the coast taken by the Hama-kaido. It is also an ancient route with a history dating back some 2,000 years to the reign of Emperor Sujin; it was the path used to transfer the spirit of the deity Izanami-no-Mikoto—originally enshrined at Hana-no-Iwaya—to Kumano Hongu Taisha. Today, I would like to share the experience of this lesser-known, rare "Hongu-do" route with you by walking it over the course of four days, allowing you to discover what this path is truly like. 熊野古道にはいくつかのルートがある。 伊仙神宮を起点として熊野三山に至るのが伊勢路。 伊勢路ははなのいわやで浜街道と本宮道に分かれる。 浜街道を行けば速玉大社へ、本宮道を行けば本宮道に至るわけだ。 今回紹介する本宮道は長い海岸線を歩く遠回りな浜街道ではなく、 山間部を縫って熊野本宮大社に直接至るショートカットルートとしての役割を果たしていた。 また約2000年前の崇神（すじん）天皇の代には、花の窟（はなのいわや）に祀られていたイザナミノミコトの御魂を熊野本宮大社に遷した際の道として開かれた言われる古代ロマンの道でもある。 今回はまだあまり知られていないその「本宮道」を4日間で実際に歩くことで どんな道なのかをあなたに知ってもらうことにしたいと思う。
