Fixing Exhaust Leaks With Remflex Gaskets - It Works!!

Fixing things that shouldn't need fixed again, but here we are. We are working on a 1963 Buick Riviera with an LS1 swap (let's be real - its a 5.3 truck motor). When I first fabricated O2 extensions/exhaust/catalytic converters I used the crappy/cheap double metal reinforced gaskets that the flanges came with.... and they blew out. No surprise really, but I was surprised to see that glueing one side of the gasket to the flange with High Temp Copper RTV to make install easier was the weak point. I would have bet a beefy 5 layer burrito from Taco Bell that the blowout would have happened on the non siliconed side. I ended up having several stainless steel exhaust bolts gall up and had to be snapped off. I ordered all new grade 8 steel hardware from boltdepot.com to avoid the problem again just incase I need to take anything apart in the future. To actually fix the exhaust leaks I went with Remflex collector gaskets and they worked so well I wanted to review them - I've also had good luck with Mr. Gasket aluminum/copper/Ultra Seal as well as SCE copper gaskets in the past. None of the other brands come close to how soft and compressible the Remflex are. They are pricey but worth it! I've used their exhaust manifold gaskets on warped/pitted cast iron manifolds with good success as well. The only downfall with Remflex is I've never been able to re-use them, small price to pay for a guaranteed seal.
