Dozens of inmates were transferred by air to the new maximum-security prison located in the Juntas del Pacífico commune in Santa Elena. Among them are 23 prisoners from Machala, 16 from Cotopaxi, and 40 from Esmeraldas, as well as inmates from the Regional Prison and the Litoral Penitentiary. The press is prohibited from entering the new prison, and information about the operation is being kept strictly confidential. According to authorities, the transfer aims to disrupt communication between criminal gangs and improve security conditions. The area remains under heavy military presence, with a large deployment of uniformed personnel guarding the perimeter and controlling access to the prison.
