We begin our journey in Colombo, the country's largest city, which offers a vivid glimpse into the daily lives of its inhabitants. We then head to the Cultural Triangle, home to Sri Lanka's most important UNESCO World Heritage attractions – the temples of Dambulla, the ancient cities of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa, and the famous Sigiriya, or Lion Rock, with the ruins of a palace at its summit. It is in this part of the island that the historical and religious heritage of ancient Ceylon is best seen.
